A charity event designed to support the CHAS-run Robin House facility is to take place in Balfron later this month - and it’s all down to a bunch of ‘old crocks’!The Forth and Endrick Old Crocks is a football team formed in 2015 when a group of ‘more mature’ players wanted to keep playing football in the village and raise money for good causes in the process. The team, initially made up of players from Balfron itself before extending its scope, played their first match against Islay Old Crocks to support Macmillan Nurses.Since that initial match back in 2015, the Old Crocks have gone on to raise nearly £60,000 for charity, with the monies being distributed to a wide range of deserving causes including the Teenage Cancer Trust, MND Scotland and the British Heart Foundation.Local causes have also received money from their fundraising efforts including Caring4Carers who supported a family in Milngavie; Autism Support to provide a support dog for Balfron girl Molly Smeed; and Balfron High School’s polytunnel for learning support. The Old Crocks have played matches all over the place including Edinburgh, Skye, Aviemore and Oban and even took trips to Balinlough in Ireland and Jersey for organised games.Among their fundraising initiatives have included raffles, golf tournaments, supper dances, quiz nights and even a whip round on the flight to Ireland which raised £300.The latest of these will take place on August 19 at Donaldson Park with the ‘Balfron Bash’ - a day of entertainment, including the Loch Lomond Ukelele Group, dance performances from the Laura Grey and Eilidh McRae Schools of Dance.A five-a-side football tournament has also been arranged for the afternoon while there will be lots to keep people fed and watered,
