Australian singer calls out Manchester café server after ‘unsettling’ and ‘aggressive’ exchange

The frontwoman of an Australian alt-rock band has criticised a Manchester café after an ‘unsettling’ exchange with a server during a recent visit this week.

Zoe Catterall, who is the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for The Buoys, had arrived in the city ahead of the band’s first ever UK tour earlier this week and had stopped by at a coffee shop in the city centre to buy a drink.

Posting a video on TikTok, Zoe, who has been part of the band since its inception in 2016, said she was ‘jet-lagged, hungry and overwhelmed’ having been on a flight and then a bus from London to Manchester. READ MORE: Parklife 2024 entry times, lineup, venue, stages and everything else you need to know Speaking about her exchange, Zoe said she had stopped into a café in the city, which she did not name, to order a coffee and was met with a member of staff who she described as acting ‘awful’ to her. “I had the most unsettling experience at a café in Manchester today of someone being really aggressive to me,” Zoe started by saying in the video. “My family are all from Manchester, my dad was born and raised here so when I come here I get really excited because it’s a real sense of home for me.” Zoe explained how she had walked into the café and enquired about a row of seats at the back of the venue and whether they were part of the café or part of another neighbouring unit, and whether the venue worked on table service or if customers just came up to the counter to order. “I was just not expecting the response that I got,” she added. “She rolled her eyes and went [in a dismissive tone] ‘no, this seating is shared with a neighbouring venue, you can order the coffee here and take it outside yourself’. “I was just like ‘woah, I’m sorry, I just
