Ashley Dale 'tried to call her boyfriend after being shot' a trial jury has heard. The Knowsley Council worker, 28, was shot in the abdomen when gunman James Witham, 41, kicked down the door of her home in Old Swan, on August 21 last year, Liverpool Crown Court was told.

Witham has admitted manslaughter but he and four other men - Niall Barry, 26, Sean Zeisz, 28, Ian Fitzgibbon, 28, Joseph Peers, 29 - deny Ashley's murder.

The court heard how Ashley's phone made a one minute, 43 second voicemail call to her boyfriend Lee Harrison at 12.33am on August 21 last year, however he did not answer the call, the ECHO reports.
