Asda has issued an apology after a technical glitch caused some of its stores to open later than expected. The retailer has stated that the checkout issue, which delayed early Monday morning shoppers until around 8am, has now been remedied, and operations are back to normal. It is believed the problem arose from an intended overnight update to their systems on Sunday night.

A spokesperson for Asda commented: "Some of our stores opened later than planned this morning due to a technical issue affecting checkouts.

This has now been resolved and we apologise to customers for any inconvenience caused."Disgruntled consumers expressed their displeasure on social media as they were turned away from their local supermarkets.

Notably, in July, Asda also experienced payment difficulties when a nationwide glitch prevented some card payments, forcing certain shops to take cash only. We'll be bringing you the very latest updates, pictures and video on this breaking news story. For the latest news and breaking news visit dailyrecord.co.ukGet all the big headlines, pictures, analysis, opinion and video on the stories that matter to you.Follow us on Twitter @Daily_Record - the official Daily Record Twitter account - real news in real time. We're also on Facebook - your must-see news, features, videos and pictures throughout the day from the Daily Record, Sunday Mail and Record Online.
