Apple and FX’s Diverse Storytelling Leads to Historic Emmy Nominations Success
variety.comAramide Tinubu Just six months after the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (which were delayed amid the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023), the nominations for the 76th Emmy Awards have been revealed.
While things mostly went as expected, a few standouts are worth noting. Apple TV+ and FX have positioned themselves as true competitors against long-dominating networks like Netflix and HBO/Max.
Moreover, in a hard-won battle for representation, the Indigenous community and women of color have made significant strides, suggesting that the television landscape has finally turned a corner regarding diversity and inclusion. Despite the long strikes of 2023 causing chaos for the traditional Emmys season, Hollywood has managed to deliver fantastic television shows that have set the bar for returning programming and newcomers.
Netflix’s breakout hit, “Baby Reindeer,” is an 11-time nominee, and its long-running staple, “The Crown,” has earned an additional 18 nominations, adding to the streamers’ total of 107.
