Phenomenal effort by West Lothian community helps Kidzeco to open doors again

Kidzeco in Bathgate has opened its doors again after a phenomenal campaign that saw supporters raise over £8000.The popular community enterprise had been forced to shut over continued vandalism and anti-social behaviour that made bosses fearful for the safety of staff.The last straw came when vandals climbed up on the roof, causing damage that saw the store below affected by rain water.But it was a big loss to the community, as it meant the cancellation of crucial support sessions for new and expectant parents, children’s classes and community activities for families.The loss of vital charity shop meant pre-loved items could not be accepted or stored.But thanks to a mammoth effort from the community, Kidzeco opened again last week with a fantastic family fun day.They’ve now installed 6ft mesh panels to prevent access to the roof, have a planned application of anti-climb paint on exterior yard walls and are replacing the gate with a more robust one and have installed CCTV security.Founder Tracy Murdoch said: “What an absolutely amazing day we had as we re-opened Kidzeco Bathgate.“So many families dropped by to pick us some preloved goodies, joined in the fun and dancing with Stina Sparkles and won some great prizes in our raffles and tombola.“With all your help and support we not only got our doors back open but raised a whopping £2000 which will help us start to recoup some of the income we have lost over the past eight to 10 weeks.“Thank you to everyone who has donated to us, shopped with us, baked for us, helped with our security measures, messaged or called offering support.
