Woman's body found on M6 after emergency crews race to scene

The body of a woman was sadly found on the M6 motorway this morning after emergency services responded over 'concerns for her welfare'.

Police and paramedics raced to the scene on the M6 near Wigan at around 1.25am today (Friday). Tragically, police said officers' discovered the body of a female'.

No further details about her have been released at this stage. 'Complex' accident investigation work is underway on the southbound side of the motorway this morning, with the M6 fully shut from junction 27 for junction 26. Any witnesses to the incident, or anyone with information, is being urged to get in touch with the force. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At around 1.25am this morning (Friday 16 August 2024), we were called to the junction 27 of the M6 for a concern for welfare of a female.
