Police have reopened the investigation into whether Angela Rayner broke electoral law over the sale of her council house. The Ashton-under-Lyne MP previously said she did 'nothing wrong' when selling her former council house before she became an MP - following questions about whether she paid the right amount of tax on the sale.
Greater Manchester Police originally said the Labour deputy leader would not face an investigation. READ MORE: Ex-footballer Joe Thompson's heartbreaking cancer update But following a complaint from deputy Tory party chairman James Daly, the force decided to 'review the circumstances'.
Mr Daly, it has been reported, made GMP aware of neighbours' claims that contradicted Ms Rayner's statement that a property, separate from her husband's, was her main residency.
The Bury North MP alleged a false declaration about where she was living may have been made on the electoral register. Today (April 12) GMP confirmed they have reopened the investigation.
