The 37-year-old confirmed that the tennis Paris tournament would be his last as he partnered Dan Evans in the doubles with Team GB as they took on after battling comebacks against the Japanese pairing of Taro Daniel and Kei Nishikori and Belgium’s Sander Gille and Joran Vliegen in the opening round.
However, the quarter-final match-up with USA duo Taylor Fritz and Tommy Paul proved to be too much, with Murray and Evanslosing in two sets.Team USA took the first set in just 30 minutes with a 6-1 scoreline, and despite some valiant efforts from British pair to prolong the inevitable, Fritz and Paul eventually won the decisive second set 6-4.
The American duo were made to work for the points to close out the match but will fancy their chances of going all the way to claim Olympic gold.
