Airdrie boss Rhys McCabe says his side shot themselves in the foot by giving Ayr United almost a 45-minute head start as they crashed to their first home defeat in the Championship.Goals from Logan Chalmers and Anton Dowds had Ayr on easy street before Lewis McGregor pulled one back for the Diamonds.McCabe says Airdrie paid dearly for making basic mistakes and only have themselves to blame for the defeat.“It took us too long to get going, we started too slowly in the first half,” said McCabe.“The message was clear to come out of the traps, especially at home, and we had to set the tone and tempo of the game.“But I thought Ayr started better than us, we allowed them too much time on the ball, and ultimately silly mistakes cost us.“In the first half we didn’t stop the cross and we got caught at the back, but I think we actually lost possession ourselves.“Individually and basic mistakes from our point of view, but it took us too long to get going.“I thought in the second half we improved, looked like the team on the front foot, were full of energy and more in the style and the way that I want toi play.“But ultimately, if you’re going to give teams almost 45 minutes of a head-start you’re shooting yourself in the foot.”Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
