dailyrecord.co.ukAirdrie player-boss Rhys McCabe was happy to win ugly at Morton and claim the club’s first win on the road this season.The Diamonds made it back-to-back victories in the Championship as they followed up last week’s 1-0 win over then leaders Raith Rovers with an identical scoreline at Cappielow.Lewis McGregor came back to haunt his old side as his first half strike was enough to take the three points back to North Lanarkshire.McCabe, whose side are up to fifth and level on points with fourth-place Arbroath in the play-off spots, was delighted with the result, but admitted it wasn’t much of a spectacle.“I’m not going to lie, it was a rubbish game, but we defended really well,” he told the club media.“The message before the game was not to get drawn into the rubbish, try to impose and play our style as best we can.“You’ve got to play the conditions sometimes and the park was a little bit heavy.“Cappielow is a hard place to come and get a result so fair play to the boys.“There’s a lot of positives to take like the clean sheet and the back four, [goalkeeper] Josh Rae.
Some of the individual performances were great.“A special mention to Lewis McGregor in the circumstances, of being here before and the manner in which he left Morton [in January when his contract was terminated by mutual consent], so it’s great for him to go and get a goal.
I’m delighted for Lewis. He has been through a lot in the last 6-12 months and now he’s coming to work with a smile on his face.“I’m glad I wasn’t a supporter in the stand paying to watch that, but we’ve got the job done and we move on.”Airdrie won the game with a typical flowing move in 32 minutes.
