Adele James Speaks Out About 'Queen Cleopatra' Controversy: 'I Have Every Right' To Portray The Egyptian Ruler

Adele James is breaking her silence about the controversy over her upcoming Netflix series, Queen Cleopatra.

If you’ve been following along, the country of Egypt is very upset over the fact that Adele will be playing the infamous Egyptian ruler – so much that the Supreme Council Of Antiquities has released a statement about the series and how her heritage is being portrayed.

That was after an Egyptian lawyer sought to sue the streaming giant for Adele‘s portrayal, which hasn’t even aired yet.

Now, Adele is speaking out. Keep reading to find out more… In a new interview with British Glamour, Adele shared that the “only thing I can say about it [Cleopatra’s background) is that we just don’t know.” “There are versions of Cleopatra that exist already with actresses in that role who are fairer skinned than I am, but I think I have every right to have a shot at humanizing this incredible woman,” she adds. “We all put our blood, sweat and tears into that show, and I think anybody else has as much of a right as anybody else to have a go at it because we just don’t know.” Adele did reveal to the outlet that there have been death threats sent to her, and many of the other cast and crew on the series over the controversy. “There is no circumstance under which it is acceptable for anybody to treat me or anybody else the way that I and the cast and crew have been treated since the announcement,” she shared. “The death threats that I’ve received, the racist comments, it’s just the vitriol.
