If you were asked to remember your favourite memories of childhood, there's a good chance your mind would drift off to some idyllic summer when times seemed to be simpler.

Traditionally, the summer holidays are a time most kids look forward to. Not only does it mean six weeks off school, but there are adventures to be had on those hot summer days with your friends.

Many will have childhood memories of going on long walks, or bike rides, to a beauty spot during the summer months. And this sometimes involved being near a lake or river for a spot of paddling - or something much more dangerous and not advisable today.
