Summer is prime time for pesky house flies to invade homes and once they get in they can be a nightmare to banish.Their buzzing can quickly become a nuisance and they are also spreaders of bacteria, especially when they land on food.
To get rid of them the first port of call is usually to grab a fly swat and chase after them around the house. But now, one woman has shared a simple trick that she uses to keep the bugs from entering her house at all - the Express reports.
To prevent fly infestations, all you need is a plastic bag and some water. Based in Florida in the USA, Genny West took to Instagram to explain the unusual method.
In a video shared on her profile @Gennywest_orlan.dorealtor, she said: “Okay, why do I have a plastic bag filled with water on my sliding door handle?“Everybody's having a really bad time with flies, and so the plumber came and he said ‘It’s like a southern thing, you had a bag of water on your doorway, and you won’t have a fly’.“I said: ‘You made this up.’ He said: ‘I don’t know, but you need to try it because it works.’“So I want someone who is fully southern - I have lived my time in the south but I am not a fully southern - born, raised, tell me why this works.“I have not had a fly in my house, or even around me when I’m outside since.
