Millions from around the world will tune in to watch the Grand National this afternoon (Saturday April 13). Thousands flock to Aintree, in Merseyside, to watch jockeys and their horses compete in the prestigious race.

Last year's winner Corach Rambler is among the 34 runners in this year's Randox Grand National. The 10-year-old, trained by Lucinda Russell, is vying to join the likes of Red Rum and Tiger Roll in winning the race for the second consecutive year.

However, those watching at home and in-person will notice a number of changes this year. Five new measures have been introduced this year to ensure the safety and welfare of the horses and jockeys by trying to reduce the number of fallers and injuries. The first fence has been moved 60 yards nearer to the start with the aim that runners will approach it at a slower speed from a standing start.
