West Lothian nursery worker hailed as the best in the business

A nursery worker with more than 50 years experience has been named the best in the business.Carole Blackwood, an employee at Oakwell Children’s Nursery in Linlithgow won the Practitioner of the Year Award at the annual National Day Nursery Association (NDNA) awards.The NDNA’s annual conference and awards evening brought members and sector experts together to celebrate their achievements in a glitzy ceremony held at Coventry Building Society Arena, hosted by TV presented Jenny Powell.Carole (76), who stays in Linlithgow, said she’s over the moon to have won.She added: “I really can’t believe this has happened to me after 50 years in childcare.“I like dressing up to make the children happy, they do not expect me to do silly things and at this stage in my life, I like doing silly things.

If the children are happy, I am happy.”Nursery manager Eilidh Scott said Carole, who has been a member of the team at Oakwell for 17 years, thoroughly deserves the award.She said: “Carole is one of the most dedicated practitioners I have ever come across.

She is supportive not only of the children, but also their families and her colleagues.“Carole ensures that every day is an adventure for every child in her care- there is never a dull moment!
