Virgin Media confirms broadband price hike - and how it will affect monthly bills

Virgin Media has announced that broadband customers will be paying more on their monthly bills from next year.Costs are expected to rise in line with the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation, plus an extra 3.9%, no matter what kind of broadband package you've taken out.The telecoms company will base the price hike on the RPI figure for February, and the changes are expected to come into force by April 2023.The rate of inflation is currently at 9%, but this can either go higher or lower by the time February comes around.

The Mirror reports that if you're not satisfied with this change, you can cancel your package any time before October 31, 2023, without paying any cancellation fees.In the email seen by Express.co.uk, Virgin Media said: “We usually change our prices each year – writing to let you know how much they’re going up and giving you the chance to cancel. “From April 2024, we’re doing things differently, so any price rise to your package will be made at the same time every year.

This’ll be linked to the Retail Price Index (RPI) rate of inflation plus an additional 3.9% – which means the amount of any increase will be clearer, sooner.” Other suppliers, such as BT, TalkTalk and Vodafone, also use the rate of inflation to increase prices.
