Novak Djokovic is eligible to compete. The 34-year-old tennis player, who has made headlines for refusing to get the COVID-19 vaccine, will be eligible to compete at Wimbledon in June, tournament organizers revealed Tuesday (April 26) via People. “The requirement set out by the government to enter the U.K.
does not include mandatory vaccination. Therefore, while it is of course encouraged, it is not a condition of entry,” said Sally Bolton of All England Lawn Tennis Club.
The decision allows Novak to enter into the competition again, following his win over Italy’s Matteo Berrettini in the men’s singles final last year, earning his 20th Grand Slam title.
Wimbledon is set for June 27, and will end on July 10. Novak Djokovic also just made headlines regarding his stance on Wimbledon’s response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
