UK tourists warned as Canary Islands government declares state of ‘pre-alert’

The government of the Canary Islands has declared a ‘pre-alert situation’ for La Palma, Tenerife and Lanzarote after Spain’s national weather agency Aemet issued several yellow weather warnings for the Spanish islands.
The state of pre-alert for rain came into force at 9am local time this morning and takes into account forecasts by Aemet and the ‘application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).’ It comes as 15mm or more rain is expected to fall in one hour in La Palma; the north, east and southeast of Tenerife and in Lanzarote.

This includes: not camping in flood-prone areas, avoiding driving in heavy rain, not crossing bridges where water is rising above them, and to follow instructions issued via the media.
