Two regions issued 36-hour heat warning as highs of 26C arrive in UK

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has issued a 36-hour heat warning for two UK regions as highs of 26C are forecast this weekend.

The yellow heat health alert covers the south east and east of England and will be in place from 9pm on Saturday, August 31, until Monday, September 2, at 9am.

It comes as temperatures are set to rise over the weekend, peaking on Sunday. The areas with the highest temperatures will be down south, while areas up north will see highs in the low 20s. The UKHSA issues health alerts in partnership with the Met Office. The alert states: "Minor impacts are probable across the health and social care sector, including: increased use of healthcare services by the vulnerable population; increase in risk of mortality amongst vulnerable individuals and increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm.
