Two months of works at Carlisle Road in Airdrie as new active travel route is completed
dailyrecord.co.ukTemporary traffic lights will be in place for two months on a busy Airdrie road to allow for the construction of a new active travel route.Work will be carried out along the A73 Carlisle Road from this Friday, February 16, to widen the path along its east side and create a shared-used path through Craigneuk Park for walking, wheeling and cycling.It is expected to take until the end of April, and the manually-controlled signals will be in place from 7am to 7pm each day.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Council officials say it “will improve connections to schools and bus stops in this area”, and add: “Every effort will be made to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and road users.”New toucan crossing infrastructure will also be put in place on the main road, along with new street lighting, drainage, landscaping including tree removal and planting, plus utility protection works.Upgrading work was carried out on Carlisle Road last year to install two new mini-roundabouts at its problem junctions with Petersburn Road, and the former staggered crossroads with South Biggar Road and Craigneuk Avenue, close to the
