Tui holidaymakers were left stranded in a 'nightmare' situation, for 50 hours at Corfu airport following a global IT outage.Passengers hoping to catch the return flight to Manchester from their Greek island getaway on Friday, July 19, were left desperate after receiving multiple emails about sudden cancellations of their return flight.

This incident followed the cancellation of thousands of flights globally and numerous delays as airports were forced to manually check-in and board passengers due to the IT failure, reports the Mirror. The outage resulted in online check-ins failing and some departure screens at airports not functioning, leading to a backlog of delayed flights and cancellations.

One passenger, who had travelled to Corfu with their mum, spoke of their horror experience in Greece. They were scheduled to fly back to Manchester on Friday afternoon, but as of 4pm today, Sunday July 21, they claim they are still waiting in the departures lounge, completely unaware of when their rescheduled flight would take off.

The holidaymakers were instructed to book their own hotels for two nights after their initial TOM2519 flight was cancelled on Friday (July 19) - but 50 hours later, they are still uncertain whether the plane will even leave the runway at any point today. Some of them, unable to afford the unexpected expense of booking accommodation, reportedly spent two gruelling nights sleeping in the airport, reports Manchester Evening News.
