The London Clinic, where Kate Middleton underwent abdominal surgery in January, is investigating claims that some members of staff attempted to access her private medical records.
Since the news of the investigation broke insiders have claimed to The Mirror that "up to three people" might have been involved in this breach of privacy. The alleged breach took place after the Princess of Wales was discharged from the hospital on January 29, just as rumours and conspiracy theories about the surgery began spreading on social media.
And it has now been reported that the "unprecedented" criminal investigation which is being undertaken by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) could also run alongside an additional probe by the Metropolitan Police.
OK! has reached out to the London Clinic for comment. Accessing someone’s medical records without cause or consent is a criminal offence.
