These were the dramatic scenes as thousands of chanting Bayern Munich fans were escorted through Manchester city centre. The German football supporters made their way to the Etihad Stadium this evening ahead of their team's UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City.

Video footage shows police leading the away supporters along Newton Street, up Great Ancoats Street and onto Old Mill Street en route to the ground. Eyewitnesses reported that traffic was briefly stopped on several roads to allow supporters to pass. There were no reports of any trouble.

Elsewhere this evening, there are no Metrolink services running between Ashton-under-Lyne and the Etihad due to a tram fault at Audenshaw.
