More than £300,000 has been raked in by Tameside Council in the last three years from bus lane fines alone. From the beginning of 2021 to the end of 2022, the council has issued 12,609 fines from which they have accrued £324,074, according to Freedom of Information data gathered by the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Of the five bus lanes in the borough, the biggest earner for the council is New Beech Street in Hyde, which took in £148,143 from just over 5,000 fines during that period.
Bus lanes can only be used by buses, taxis and cyclists - disabled drivers/blue badge holders are not exempt from bus lane enforcement.
