Teenager with 'egg-like' lump on thigh diagnosed with rare cancer

A teenager has been diagnosed with an exceptionally rare and aggressive cancer after noticing a lump the size of a "large egg" on his thigh.

Jasper Furniss, from Oxford, returned from a family holiday to find out he was one of the only 72 people in the UK each year to be struck down by a specific type of sarcoma.Jasper, 17, was diagnosed with myxoid liposarcoma - a cancer that typically develops in the limbs, particularly the thighs.

Sarcomas are a group of cancers originating in the bones and connective tissues, with roughly 4,300 cases emerging across the UK each year.Jasper's condition was rapidly identified thanks to his father, Dominic, who is a preeminent reconstructive surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals and recognised the severity of the situation immediately.

The alarming discovery was made whilst the family were vacationing in Cornwall and Jasper asked for his fathers opinion on the unusual growth.Recalling the harrowing experience, Dominic said: "It was the worst moment of my life.
