Teenager whose body was found in a river named as boy, 14, fights for life

A teenager whose body was found in a river in Cumbia has been named as 15-year-old Lewis Michael Kirkpatrick. Lewis, who was from Carlisle, and three other teenage boys got into difficulty in the River Eden near to the Rosehill area of the city on Friday evening.

His body was found shortly after 1.30pm on Saturday after a search operation. He has since been formally identified, Cumbria Police confirmed. READ MORE: My daughter was killed by a complete stranger.

Something has to change' A 14-year-old who was airlifted to hospital on Friday evening remains in a critical condition, while one of the group managed to swim to safety.

Another was rescued by a member of the public. Last Wednesday evening, a body believed to be of a 16-year-old boy was recovered from the River Calder in Castleford, West Yorkshire.
