Strictly Come Dancing will be put under the spotlight in a new documentary exposing the "secrets, sex and scandals" of the hit BBC celebrity dance show - and Channel 5 have scheduled it to start right after the launch show. The one-off programme, in honour of the popular series' 20th anniversary, will air at 9pm, the exact same time the real thing ends. The two-hour-long documentary plans to chronicle the show's highs, lows, costumes, competitions and controversies.

It will "trace the history of Strictly, from its roots in a quaint old late-night ballroom competition called Come Dancing, via a cult Aussie movie romcom, to the flagship spectacular it has now become".

Through interviews with judges, professional dancers and former celebrity contestants, it will also recall the show's best and worst competitors, explore the "pioneering new ground" it has broken by championing same-sex pairings and those with disabilities, as well as "the high levels of stress and pressure in perfecting those routines".

It will also reportedly take a look at the truth behind the show's so-called and now infamous 'Strictly curse'. It will also feature a segment on the recent controversies which have surrounded the show and prompted the BBC to introduce more safeguarding measures for its stars behind the scenes.
