Storm Babet is set to hit Greater Manchester today, bringing heavy rain and strong winds to our region. A Met Office yellow weather warning covering parts of our region will come into force at 6pm this evening, though forecasters predict the heavy showers will begin from around 10am.

Following a cloudy and largely dry afternoon, more heavy rain is then forecast to fall in Greater Manchester tonight and into the early hours.

Further downpours are forecast through the day on Friday, with the 36-hour yellow warning remaining in place until 6am on Saturday.

In other parts of the UK, a rare red weather warning has been issued where 'exceptional rainfall and impactful wind' could cause a 'danger to life'.
