Council chiefs have for the first time told how they will take a wrecking ball to a dangerous Station Hotel building, if necessary. The unstable southern section of the building could be completely raised to the ground as part of a major safety operation.
A specialist contractor has now been secured to deal with the gable end section that was reportedly 'hanging by a thread' after drone footage emerged almost a fortnight ago, following a devastating blaze last month. And in a bombshell statement, South Ayrshire Council has revealed that the painstaking project could take up to NINE weeks to complete. It comes just a day after they told Ayrshire Live that it was "too early to say", if demolition will be required. Now bosses fear they will have to bring down the iconic B-listed building in order to protect the public. The gable end has caused travel chaos since the inferno on Monday, September 25.
Station Bridge Road has remained shut for more than three weeks as council teams assessed the wreckage.Ayrshire Live previously told how it was feared that trains would not be back up and running until after Christmas.
With works set to commence on Monday, October 23 those fears could now become reality - leaving Ayr cut off over the festive period.
