Staff at Piccadilly Gardens bus crash cafe 'okay although shaken up'

Staff at a bubble tea shop are 'okay although shaken up' after a bus crashed into the front of the cafe, bosses have said. Paramedics are treating a 'number of casualties' after a bus ploughed into T4 in Piccadilly Gardens on Monday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Manchester city centre at 1.15pm after the crash at the base of City Tower. Witnesses have described seeing a number of injured people, thought to have been pedestrians walking past at the time, being taken away on stretchers A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said at this stage he was not able to give an exact number of people who have been taken to hospital, but said 'a number of casualties' were being treated.

A spokesperson for T4 said all staff at the cafe, which opened in August, were 'okay although shaken up' while one customer suffered minor injuries and was seen by emergency services. "We will remain closed until we are able to get the store back up on its feet." Police have closed roads in the immediate area and are advising the public to stay away.
