A Scots killer believed to be one of the UK's longest-serving prisoners has died behind bars. Arthur Norman Duncan, 72, died at HMP & YOI Grampian on Tuesday, August 13.

The monster was convicted of raping and murdering 22-year-old Linda Bull in Andover, Hampshire, on June 3, 1970.Duncan, from Aberdeen, was an 18-year-old soldier in the Royal Artillery when he launched his attack on Ms Bull, a stranger to him, as she walked home from a friend's house.

She was found naked in a driveway just yards away from her family home after she had been strangled with her tights.Duncan was given a life sentence at an English court for the despicable crimes but was later transferred north of the border.

In 2002, a Scottish judge ruled that he should serve a minimum of 10 years in jail before he could seek parole but authorities repeatedly refused to sanction his release in their bid to protect the public.
