A popular Scottish fish and chip shop has slammed chef Tom Kerridge for "insulting" chippies across the UK in comments he made recently.David Mcleod, owner of the award-winning Mcleod's Fish and Chips in Inverness, hit back at the Michelin star celebrity chef after he sparked controversy when his Harrods restaurant in London increased the price of its fish and chips to £37.
Kerridge has previously defended the price of the dish following complaints from customers that the portion size was "scrawny".
He appeared to take aim at chippies across the UK when attempting to justify the price tag. In an interview with the Radio Times, he stated that customers were only critical of his prices because he was viewed as a "man of the people".The chef, who has appeared on television programmes such as Great British Menu and Bake Off: Crème de la Crème, added: "But the people criticising me don’t understand how it’s priced.
Fish and chips was always seen as cheap, fast food, and I get that because of where I grew up."The fish in most chippies is frozen at sea, in a big block, a year ago, then cut up and portioned.
