Scots boxer dies after motorbike crashes with car

A Scots boxer has died following a motorbike crash - just days after an important title fight.Andrew "Andy" Tham's motorbike was involved in a collision with a car on Thursday, May 30 at around 6.50pm.

Officers from Police Scotland are now investigating the crash. The incident between Andy's green Kawasaki motorcycle and a red Hyundai Tucson car saw the 28-year-old rushed to hospital with serious injuries before he tragically passed away.The crash, on the B8039 near to Lenziemill Road in Cumbernauld, Lanarkshire, took place less than two weeks after he lost to George Stewart in their Celtic Featherweight title bout.

The Hyundai Tucson's driver and passengers were taken to Airdrie's University Hospital Monklands and released after receiving treatment for minor injuries.The road had been closed for around four hours to allow police crash specialists to carry out investigations into the collision.

The boxing community rallied round Andy in the wake of the incident, with hundreds sending prayers and well wishes on social media after news of his injuries broke.One post read: "Andy Tham our Scottish featherweight champion [was involved in] a motorbike accident in Cumbernauld, please say a prayer."Another said: "Devastating news".
