Rutherglen Glencairn can get season back on track with cup tie, says boss

Joe Pryce sees a West of Scotland Cup clash against Craigmark Burntonians as an opportunity for Rutherglen Glencairn to reach the quarter-finals – but won’t be taking their opponents lightly.Rather than seeing a fourth-round clash against Second Division opposition as a chance to rest players, Pryce is looking to get their season back on track after back-to-back defeats in the West of Scotland First Division, having lost 3-0 at Thorniewood on Saturday.Pryce also hopes it’s a further chance to get minutes under the belts of Anthony Maguire, Lewis Blane and Dylan Collins, who returned against Thorniewood, and striker Ryan McManus, who could be back this weekendThe Glens gaffer said: “We’ve got a wee break from the league this week, we go down to Craigmark, which everybody says is a really tough tie.“They had a good result on Saturday, beating Kilsyth Rangers 1-0, so we know we’re going to be up against it down there, but we’re ready for it.“It’s an opportunity to get into the last eight of the West of Scotland Cup, which is a competition Glencairn have never won, so it’s something to look forward to.“The last couple of results haven’t gone our way, but we look more at the performances.“The performance against Kilbirnie last week wasn’t a good one, we get that, but we were a wee bit better in the first half against Thorniewood on Saturday, and we could see things were starting to improve.“We’re starting to get a few players back, like Ants, Lewis and Dylan, and hopefully Ryan McManus will be back as well.“These are all important players for us, and if we get one or two back it usually means we lose another one, as is the case with Matty Meechan.”Meechan was the victim of a hefty challenge from a Kilbirnie Ladeside player
