Runaway cows on major Scots motorway sparks emergency closure during rush hour

Two escaped cows have sparked an emergency closure of a major Scots motorway after being spotted running along the hard shoulder.

Police have been called to the scene on the southbound carriageway of the M73 near the Gartcosh Interchange at J2A. A picture shared by Traffic Scotland shows the heifers at the roadside at around 4.10pm on Monday, September 26.

Motorists are being urged to use caution on approach. Police Scotland officers are being supported by a Trunk Road Incident Support Service (TRISS) vehicle, which can be seen tailing the travelling beasts.Traffic Scotland tweeted: “M73 J2A hazard.

The southbound carriageway is currently restricted due to cows on the hard shoulder. Police and TRISS are in attendance. Take care on approach.”Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
