RTÉ has issued an apology following the broadcast of a comedy sketch on RTÉ One’s New Year’s Eve countdown programme. The sketch in question was a Waterford Whispers fake ‘news report’ presented by former RTÉ star Aengus MacGriana in which God was described as being ‘the latest figure to be implicated in ongoing sexual harassment scandals’.
The satire piece was accompanied by images of an elderly man in white robes and with a flowing white beard being arrested by a Garda.
