Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical dances and sings its way to a Number 1 debut on the UK’s Official Film Chart. The brand-new film adaptation of Tim Minchin’s Tony and Olivier award-winning musical – itself based on Roald Dahl’s much-loved book – soars straight to the top of the charts on digital downloads only, outselling the rest of the Top 10 combined.
Newcomer Alisha Weir stars as Matilda Wormwood, an incredibly talented little girl with mysterious powers who finds the courage to stand up to troublesome headteacher Miss Trunchbull (Emma Thompson) and her dreadful parents, with a little help from her friends and inspirational teacher Miss Honey (Lashana Lynch).
Meanwhile, Black Adam holds on to its Number 2 placing for another week, while Top Gun: Maverick rebounds one place to Number 3.
Our second brand new entry of the week comes from Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody which debuts at Number 4.
