A construction worker from Perth has been banned from driving for a further 16 months after he was caught motoring along city streets by chance when he was already disqualified.Perth Sheriff Court heard Jonathon Alexander Boyes was previously disqualified from holding or obtaining a licence on November 13, 2109 for a period of three years.Fiscal depute Elizabeth Hodgson said police were out on patrol in the city one evening driving a marked car when they observed a Nissan moving along in front of them.“They saw the Nissan travelling in front of their vehicle,” she said. “A check was carried out.”Ms Hodgson said the check showed Boyes’ wife was the car’s insurance policy owner but the police could see the person driving it that night “was clearly male”.“The vehicle was stopped,” she continued. “Checks were carried out and the accused was found to be disqualified.”Boyes (46), of Glenshee Crescent, Perth, admitted that April 22 last year he drove on Unity Terrace and Feus Road while he was disqualified and had no insurance. His solicitor Paul Ralph told the court Boyes had been out together the night in question and she had taken unwell and that was why he decided to get behind the wheel.Sheriff William Wood fined Boyes £1000 for driving while disqualified and banned him from the road for a further 16 months, discounted from 24 months to take into account the timing of his guilty plea.He warned him: “Mr Boyes, people who drive while disqualified often end up in prison.“I take it that is not the way you want your life to go?”Boyes replied: “No.”Sheriff Wood admonished him over the insurance charge.
