To date, RAAC (reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete) has been found in two buildings either owned by Perth and Kinross Council (PKC) or an arm's-length external organisation (ALEO) of the council. In February 2023 it was discovered in the assembly hall roof of Perth Grammar School and £500,000 was spent removing and replacing it.Last week - as PKC approved Live Active Leisure's request to remove its leisure services from Bell's Sports Centre - councillors were told RAAC was discovered within the sports centre in autumn 2023 with the estimated costs to make it safe around £600,000.Following the meeting, the Local Democracy Reporting Service asked Perth and Kinross Council to list all the council and ALEO buildings where RAAC has been found.A PKC spokesperson said: "RAAC has been identified in one council building and one building which is currently operated by an ALEO.

These are Perth Grammar School and Bell's Sports Centre."RAAC has been completely removed from Perth Grammar School."Areas containing RAAC within Bell's Sports centre have been closed off and placed out of use.

Close monitoring of RAAC in Bell's Sports Centre is in place following recommendations from a full structural inspection. To date, the costs associated with removal and monitoring of RAAC are approximately £600,000."On May 15 Perth and Kinross Council unanimously agreed to Live Active Leisure's request to move its leisure services from Bell's Sports Centre to Dewars Centre and Perth schools.
