Prosecutors considering criminal charges after death of biker following taxi crash

Prosecutors are considering possible criminal charges following the death of a biker in a horror crash in Trafford, an inquest hearing has been told.

Dad Kevin Matley, 43, died after a crash involving a motorbike and a private hire taxi in Sale on Friday, October 28 last year.

He was rushed to the Manchester Royal Infirmary (MRI) where he died as a result of his injuries. Since then an investigation has been ongoing by Greater Manchester Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU). The driver was not named in the hearing.

Senior Coroner Alison Mutch expressed concern over the time it had taken to reach that point. In particular, she said the fact the case spent five weeks with a GMP unit whose sole task it was to examine prosecution files 'beggars belief..' Mr Matley's brother was present in court and Ms Mutch said: "I am just so sorry that you are sat here nearly a year after your brother's death and you still don't know if there's going to be a prosecution." However, the court was told the CPS had 'expedited' the case.
