Charles, Prince of Wales (Charles Philip Arthur George; born 14 November 1948) is the heir apparent to the British throne as the eldest son of Elizabeth II. He has been Duke of Cornwall and Duke of Rothesay since 1952, and he is the oldest and longest-serving heir apparent in British history.
He is also the longest-serving Prince of Wales, having held that title since 1958. Charles was born at Buckingham Palace as the first grandchild of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. He was educated at Cheam and Gordonstoun schools, which his father, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, had attended as a child. Charles also spent a year at the Timbertop campus of Geelong Grammar School in Victoria, Australia.
Prince William was reportedly taken aback by the comparisons drawn between Meghan Markle and his late mother, Princess Diana, during Meghan's recent trip to Nigeria with Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Sussex's choice of jewellery - a simple gold necklace reminiscent of one worn by Diana during a 1990 visit to Nigeria with then Prince Charles - sparked comments.
After the Duchess of Sussex wore the necklace, it was reported that she had done so as a tribute to her late mother-in-law. Additionally, Meghan sported a diamond cross necklace that was rumoured to have once belonged to Diana, although this claim has been met with scepticism from someone close to the late princess, who "didn't recognise [the necklace] at all." Allegedly, the parallels drawn with Diana have irked William, who is said to be "bothered" by the portrayal of Meghan as a modern-day Diana, according to an insider.
The source suggested that while William doesn't wish to deny Harry the chance to honour their mother's memory, he is uncomfortable with any direct comparisons to her, including those involving his wife, Kate Middleton, which was recently revealed that she will not be attending the Trooping The Colour rehearsal due to ongoing cancer treatment. The source told Closer magazine that William finds the likening of Meghan to Diana "beyond tasteless and offensive." They revealed: "William doesn't want to deprive Harry of the right to celebrate their mother's legacy.
