Prime Video‘s brand new series, Citadel, cost a pretty penny to make! The streamer’s newest series, which stars Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Richard Madden, consists of six episodes, and as reported last year, cost around $300 million to make. Keep on reading to learn more about why the series was so expensive to make… According to The Hollywood Reporter‘s initial feature in 2022, the series was a big-budget, and passion project for Amazon Studios’ Jennifer Salke, who was seeking out a series to make a big commotion.

One of the big reasons the cost was so high was due to return on investment, as Prime Video is looking to expand Citadel into future installments such as spinoffs.

The series was renewed for a second season. In addition to the producers involved, a break in between filming, and then calling back actors for the series, THR also cites that the series turned out to be more expensive because of “high COVID-19 costs, not factored in when the series was initially greenlit.” Additional costs also happened when tax credits for the locations Citadel was filmed were not accounted for when the initial budget was set.

Citadel now ranks as the second most expensive series to make. Find out which show tops it… Priyanka recently opened up about the injuries she sustained while working on the show.
