Police remove stacks of boxes from SNP HQ amid probe into party's finances

Police have been pictured removing large numbers of boxes and bags from the SNP HQ in Edinburgh as they continue an investigation into the party's finances.

Large green boxes and blue bags were removed from the offices just off the Royal Mile in the capital at around 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The building is just a short distance from the Scottish Parliament building in Holyrood and is used as a base by dozens of party staff.Officers have been on guard at the entrance for most of the day, with others seen entering and leaving the building.

There were four police vans and about five unmarked police cars outside the building in Jackson's Entry, where the party headquarters is on the third floor.Police entered Gordon Lamb House before 9am, around the same time Peter Murrell, former party chief executive and husband of ex-First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, was arrested at his home in Glasgow in connection with the probe.A large police tent was set up outside the couple's house, which has been taped off.Neighbours told the Record Ms Sturgeon was seen leaving the property before police arrived.
