Police issue update after boy, 16, shot in the chest at point-blank range

Two boys who were arrested after a 16-year-old was shot in the chest in Stretford have been released on bail, police have confirmed.

The teenage boy was shot in the chest 'at close range' on Langdale Avenue on Thursday afternoon (August 10). Police believe he was 'attacked by approximately 14 males' while children were playing in the street.

His injuries were described as serious but not life-threatening. Two boys - aged 15 and 16 - were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in connection with the shooting. Stop-and-search powers were stepped up in the area after the incident, which now remain in place until 3pm today (Sunday). Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Crime Division, said previously: "Thursday night's incident is extremely serious and detectives have been deployed as a priority.
