Soaring food prices have seen UK inflation ease back far less than expected in April, keeping up the pressure on household budgets.
The Office for National Statistics said Consumer Prices Index (CPI) inflation fell to its lowest level for more than a year last month, coming in at 8.7 per cent - down from 10.1 per cent in March. But it's still higher than economists had forecast (8.2%) and could force another interest rate rise from the Bank of England in order to bring it down further over the coming months.
Ofgem also announced the energy price cap will drop by £426 for households with average, typical usage from July 1 and will replace the UK Government's Energy Price Guarantee.
More than 8.3million households recently received the £301 cost of living payment, however, if you weren't eligible for the first part of the £900 means-tested payment, but need help to cover money, food or fuel costs, you may be able to access cash support from your local council.
