James Christian Kimmel (born November 13, 1967) is an American television host, comedian, writer, and producer. He is the host and executive producer of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, a late-night talk show that premiered on ABC on January 26, 2003 at Hollywood Masonic Temple in Hollywood, California; and on April 1, 2019, at a secondary home, the Zappos Theater on the Las Vegas Strip. Kimmel hosted the Primetime Emmy Awards in 2012 and 2016, and the Academy Awards in 2017 and 2018.

He is a recipient of the AFI Life Achievement Award for his contributions to the cinema, and has won an Academy Award, a Palme d'Or, Cannes Film Festival Best Director Award, Silver Lion, Grammy Award, Emmys, Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Directors Guild of America Awards.

A total of 23 categories are up for grabs as the movie-awards season hits its apex after a year that blasted off in earnest that one weekend in July when both Barbie and Oppenheimer — aka Barbenheimer — hit theaters at the same time.

Both factored highly when names were unveiled this morning. Also in the mix are a pair of international features that established their buzz back in Cannes — Justine Triet’s Palme d’Or winner Anatomy of a Fall and Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest.
