There was romance in the air again at the Paris Olympics on Friday 9 August as Brazilian athlete Almir dos Santos got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend shortly after he competed in his event.

Almir had just taken part in the triple jump final when he proposed, and the romantic moment was captured on camera. Unfortunately, Almir came 11th in the triple jump final at the Stade de France, but he looked as happy as all the medal winners when his partner accepted his proposal. The crowd cheered when they realised what was happening, and watched as Almir’s girlfriend accepted his ring, started to cry, and embraced him in the stadium.

It’s not the first romantic proposal of the 2024 Olympic Games, as the boyfriends of French competitors Charline Picon and Sarah Steyaert proposed to the two sailors after they won bronze in the skiff sailing on Friday 2 August.
