North Lanarkshire hosts special events for Gaelic week

Special events will be taking place across North Lanarkshire to mark world Gaelic week, which begins on February 20.Performer and broadcaster Joy Dunlop will take to the stage at Bellshill cultural centre with fellow musicians to give a rendition of Gaelic songs on February 24.

A Gaelic-themed event including language, music, singing, sport, arts and crafts will then take place the following day at Greenfaulds High in Cumbernauld.

Education convener Angela Campbell said the council is “proud” to be participating in the cultural week, with its theme of “coming together”, and added: “Community learning and development events will be open to everyone across North Lanarkshire.“Seachdain na Gaidhlig is a great way to celebrate the language and learning of Gaelic.”The Time for Gaelic event at Greenfaulds will include a variety of Gaelic-medium workshops, including shinty, storytelling, conversation, books and authors.It will also feature sessions for under-eights entitled Leugh is Seinn le Linda, featuring stories, songs and games
