A man has been arrested following a nine hour stand off with police. Police were called to Conway Street in Birkenhead, Merseyside, following reports a man had entered a bar and threatened staff and punters with a crowbar.

It was reported he left in a blue Jaguar before police attended his home. It's also alleged the man then made threats towards officers with a suspected gun.Police asked people to remain indoors as they responded to the incident - and officers have now confirmed a 22-year-old man was arrested this morning.

When the Liverpool Echo attended the scene a number of roads were blocked off by police. Armed officers were seen outside a block of flats, as well as the dog unit and negotiators.

People walking in the area were told to find alternative routes and a police officer told one passer by the incident was a "risk to public safety".
